Politically, things have become way more nationalist and sovereigntist, which is a good thing across the individual member states. This may be reaction to ongoing and unrelenting UVDL power grab and her running coach and horses through the last few ineffective checks and balances of what might loosely be called EU democratic functioning
Resulting in more centralised control, as if there wasn’t enough already, but this is overturning unanimous voting on many key competences. War economy building on the back of national taxation contributions to EU Commission by members; Mandated self-defence, even more hair triggered than NATO self defence clauses; Clamp down on freedom of expression; and finally, the digital gulag in its final stage of construction with mandatory digital ids.
UVDL, Mertz and Macron all have approvals rates in the toilet and resistance to digital currency and ids is building.
National Rally (whose former president was Marina le Pen and who was lawfared out of her role) , right of centre nationalist party is in pole position to take power in April 2027 general election, ably assisted by Mr Macron.
The terms of Christine Lagarde (President of the European Central Bank, the top monetary policy official in Europe), François Villeroy de Galthau (Governor of the Bank of France, the top monetary policy official in France), Philip Lane (member of the Executive Board of the European Central Bank and the chief economist, plausibly the most influential ECB technocrat), and Isabel Schnabel (member of the Executive Board of the European Central Bank) are all set to expire shortly after the 2027 French presidential election. Lagarde and de Galthau are likely or rumoured to be about resign ahead of her term expiry. For example, Bardella who now leads National Rally will be in a position to set or influence the next appointments in 2027. These French officials’ pending resignations are happening, perhaps to enable Macron to make early replacements of all these roles ahead of the 2027 election rather than have a right of centre, nationalist creating havoc to their agenda.
More musical chairs to follow, soon!
