How about a different interpretation that a Jewish guy pointed out to me decades ago? VERY interesting & given the current times, makes sense, but seems to make people strangely uncomfortable. I would never have noticed it if not for this guy.
He says the passage in question is with regard to kingdoms that have oppressed &/or have attempted to exterminate (hint) The Jewish People.
Take a look at this section of scripture:
Revelation 17:10 Context
[7]And the angel said unto me, Wherefore didst thou marvel? I will tell thee the mystery of the woman, and of the beast that carrieth her, which hath the seven heads and ten horns. [8]The beast that thou sawest was, and is not; and shall ascend out of the bottomless pit, and go into perdition: and they that dwell on the earth shall wonder, whose names were not written in the book of life from the foundation of the world, when they behold the beast that was, and is not, and yet is. [9]And here is the mind which hath wisdom. The seven heads are seven mountains, on which the woman sitteth. 10And there are seven kings: five are fallen, and one is, and the other is not yet come; and when he cometh, he must continue a short space. [11]And the beast that was, and is not, even he is the eighth, and is of the seven, and goeth into perdition. [12]And the ten horns which thou sawest are ten kings, which have received no kingdom as yet; but receive power as kings one hour with the beast. I have watched & wondered for those decades if this is speaking of a location, a certain people, a philosophy, or, all 3? You decide for yourself.
Remember that this is John writing a “codified” letter about the future. Does it belong to the present time period and not to the original fall of Jerusalem ~70AD?
Rev. 17:8 - The beast that thou sawest was, and is not;… In the time of the end, this “beast” was in existence at one time & is repeated, re-emerges in the verse second time.

Here is the interpretation the man told me about. I don’t know the origin of it, but it is a match with regard to the present. The “kings” are kingdoms that have attempted destruction of The Jewish People. The 5 “fallen” at the time of John’s writing about the future are: Egypt, Assyria, Babylon, Medo-Persia, & Greece. Rome (#6) is the kingdom still present in John’s time.

Here’s where most people have trouble being honest. Question: Has there been a “kingdom” lasting “a short space” since Roman times to the present that has attempted to destroy The Jews? Easy pesy, it IS Nazi Germany! People have a bad time accepting this, but it’s true! It fits 100%.

Something with regard to the Nazi “kingdom” will re-emerge as “the eighth”. Is it a location, a people, a political philosophy; the list goes on. Personally, I believe it’s a Fascist political system.
IF Rome, or RCC has a place in it, it is subservient to that system, but it is not Rome to rule this “kingdom”, although, the philosophy is much the same as Nazi fascism.
If you choose to apply these verses to modern times, then, this interpretation fits better than any put forth; in fact, it’s pretty much perfect. Make note of all the Nazi involvement since WW2; Paperclip, the many Germans involved in WEF, the technology jump, etc. The scripture indicates that eventually, everyone will recognize this “kingdom”.
For some reason, Lindsay, Lalonde brothers & all the other so-called “prophecy” preachers seem to blow right past this. Why? If they gave such an interpretation, they’d be taken off the aire in hurry! Say bye bye to all those millions they have. Think about it…
