Worrying development ... The Ukraine destroyed the nuclear ICBM radars which don't effectively function below 2000km altitude

It would seem that the radar installations destroyed by The Ukraine in the last few days are actually only designed to function for altitudes of between 2000kms to 6000kms (for ICBMs). Didn’t The Ukraine give up all their nuclear weapons? reading this is worrying x.com

All part of the larger plot to retire old and obsolete military materièl, while phasing in the new.
The Ukraine has just been promised, by the EU, up to €12B of conventional( read: old) weapons, – meanwhile, The USA has just promised to deliver cutting-edge hardware ( HIMARS, etc) to Taiwan…

… just a thought … given the number and sophistication of satellites (as we are told) does one still need over the horizon radar?

Technically, these are phased array antennas that are direct line of sight systems and not over the horizon (which uses ionospheric bounce). But your comment is valid…they were designed to detect missiles on re-entry…and then only across a fairly narrow set of angles. US equivalent would probably be ‘Pave Paws’. Assuming Russia has a constellation of satellites roughly equivalent to ours, they can detect launches much more efficiently and sooner than re-entry. BTW OTH was designed for aircraft not missiles. I’ve pondered who gains/loses with this destruction. Likely some mid-tier commander who thought they’d take out something important…at least make a ‘splash’. A good way to waste some of the foreign military aide western nations have been sending. But likely little real effect in the nuclear battlespace.

Belt and braces I guess.
