Yet another piece of evidence that this nation is so, so screwed

Sad but true… and it is very disconcerting. One wonders what to do, if anything.

Postman always brings the issue home …

In his book Amusing Ourselves to Death Neil Postman wrote,

“How often does it occur that information provided you on morning radio or television, or in the morning newspaper, causes you to alter your plans for the day, or to take some action you would not otherwise have taken, or provides insight into some problem you are required to solve? For most of us, news of the weather will sometimes have consequences; for investors, news of the stock market; perhaps an occasional story about crime will do it, if by chance it occurred near where you live or involved someone you know. But most of our daily news is inert, consisting of information that gives us something to talk about but cannot lead to any meaningful action.

… “You may get a sense of what this means by asking yourself another series of questions: What steps do you plan to take to reduce the conflict in the Middle East? Or the rates of inflation, crime and unemployment? What are your plans for preserving the environment or reducing the risk of nuclear war? What do you plan to do about NATO, OPEC, the CIA, affirmative action, and the monstrous treatment of the Baha’is in Iran? I shall take the liberty of answering for you: You plan to do nothing

Hear hear… excellent quotation and thanks for sharing it. He makes the case for why I’ve largely turned off all media.

Oh I still love the media. It’s great entertainment as I have my morning coffee to see what the hairless monkeys have been up to each day. Then I go about my day.

In the meantime, we can get so distracted we don’t ask ourselves what we realistically can do in our own lives or communities (well, back when local, in-person communities still existed) to make things a little better here and now.

I read over the MSN (Micro Screed News) headlines that Micro-Screed pushes my way several times a day. Why? I find it a convenient place to learn which: (1) which narratives are being pushed; (2) which news/events are being hyped, hidden, and/or twisted; and (3) to know the future today.

Of course, the feed is based, in part, on my behaviors “it” has monitored, and while not my primary source of information, it still helps in refining my perspectives (and showing me important things, like which movie actors have aged horribly).

Good example found while reading the article and in reference to what can or should I do about it….answer, nothing let the government solve the price gouging issue. Based on the date of article June perhaps the article was to support the democrats pledge to control price gouging…

That is the point of all the stupid lies they regurgitate. My assistant is constantly telling me what she saw on the news or read in headlines so she keeps me up on every nothing that is going on. I have given up caring about any of it which is why Scarmoge’s quote is so perfect. I was watching every moment of "Russian Agression ", every detail of Congressional votes upcoming, every Trump campaign speech, and realize it is much more important to know that lightning will make my Great Pyrenees scratch my door to pieces so I had better let her in now. All the rest really does not affect me and just becomes a distraction to figuring out how to use the system to get ahead.

What is an actor without an audience? Just a person.

But “I” will be very firm in my suggestion for you to do something :joy:

Ministries of Truths are popping up all over monopoly platforms.
It is so much more efficient when truths are monopolized.
Truths can be streamlined; & then streammed into your social feeding troughs.
Just don’t ask are these truths are made.
It doesn’t concern you; as the word truth is owned, literally.
A patent was recently given to Google; who now owns “truth”, “liberty”, and “happiness”.
Don’t worry about your own damn self being owned.
Because, if you do check your feeds - your already screwed!
