It has come at last, the poor and downtrodden need to stop drinking sugary sodas and junk food…the health care costs are astronomical, therefore they are to be off the shopping list.
Instead of convincing and indoctrinating them to eat nutritionally, disallow the unhealthy products. Behavior modification at its finest.
I have no problem with limiting what can be bought using government assistance.
Food freedom based on the source of income. What a novel idea.
Thank you for putting it like that. I have been sick for years at the assumption on the part of upper middle class people that poor people eat chips & drink soda because they are dumb.
As others have noted, when advertising culture drives consumption of fast food and it’s cheap, and younger generations learn nothing about how to grow or prepare food, of course you’re going to have poor people buying cheap, quick fix food that doesn’t have to be prepared or take any time to serve.
This makes me sound like an old lady (which I am! what of it?) but I remember my mom preparing food & showing me how to, and it was a form of independence for me - why is there no effort to do that? We visited my uncle & aunt’s farm & saw how they raised food. (I realize city kids can’t easily do this, but why is there no effort to do so?) And why does the advertising industry yet again get off scot-free, as they do for everything else?
Maybe the DEI money can be redirected to sociological class conscious food selection classes in who eats what and why, sneak in a little healthier eating education at the same time. Make make home economics food preparation a requirement for all students.
