Japan's Nippon Steel to buy U.S. Steel in a $14.9 billion deal (Should we be worried?)

I know it’s not ‘iron’ but the history circa pre-WW2 bothers me.
When exactly was this deal ok’ed? The meeting a couple of months ago between Biden, Japan &
So. Korea?

More than 100 IT US Steel employees set to be laid-off in January. Union had no idea about the sell of US Steel, employees, union, senators are outraged.

And now I have this to top my night off. Fricken masks!!! Starting December 20th masks required for UPMC facilities. Lord help me.

I am really trying to keep my cool. I have a feeling I might get arrested for not licking the boot.

Edit, one more goodie for Pittsburgh International Airport.

For once I agree with Dems but likely not for the same reason(s).
There’s something real underhanded about this deal.
I think there are security issues involved as well.

Sure glad airports are off my travel plans. I refuse to to have anything to do with airports.
TSA is paid with tax dollars, as well as the construction of airports, then private companies are charging more dollars to ease the horrible experience of using an airport.
Sorry can’t support that sort of a process by purchasing an airline passenger ticket. Long ago flying was fun, exciting and hassle free. How in the heck did progress ruin a cool experience?

Have a cousin in Pittsburgh.
Will let you know if she has anything to say but think she’s bought-in; at least, she was with Covid.

… Hmmmmm … the last time I recall Japan wanting lots and lots of steel, scrap or otherwise, I think something major occurred … but what do I know?

… while that may now be true … the last time they needed that much steel was to fight the rest of the world (Axis powers excluded of course).

I concur. Japan gets US steel and markets in exchange for defending South China Sea against growing sea powers of China

There might be other agenda(s) at work here. Whether it’s legal or not is another matter.

I think a deal was made during the Camp David Summit this past August and again a few weeks ago in San Francisco (S.F.).

The steel industry, although ‘old’ and by some peoples’ measure, outdated, has such a vital history and importance to present day, that this move has to be based on something so big that neither the public, the X employees, nor the House/Senate appear to have known anything about. I don’t think shareholders knew either.

Taiwan is probably done. If China goes legal, in the manner they did with Hong Kong, it will take Taiwan and nary a squeak out of the world over it. U.S. cannot continue to fight on multiple fronts.

Japan is the largest non-U.S. holder of Treasuries, which is why U.S. Reps writing to Janet Yellen, specifically? Was a ‘trade’ arranged at Camp David to secure The U.S. debt in some way? Then, a few weeks ago, Pingy comes to meet U.S. leaders in S.F. Did they okay the taking of Taiwan to secure the other large non-U.S. holder of U.S. Treasuries? None of this is out of the question. Although we’re all aware of the dire condition of U.S. debt, I wonder if a collapse is closer, timewise, and more severe than we’ve speculated?

If we see another major industry ‘unloaded’ in such a way as X, Katie-bar-the-door…

Well of course the politicians have to contest the sale, there’s an election coming up—just a show.
If the banksters okay the deal ain’t nothing going to stop it.
Besides, It’ll help our “environmental numbers”. He he

At this point, I don’t think U.S. Reps knew a thing. I’ll take it a step further, I don’t think Biden knew why he was told to do it; he was just told what to do. Biden and Reps are relatively low level.

I’m convinced there are very few people who know the entire ‘whats and whys’ surrounding these events. The rest are just beholden, or, outright blackmailed.

On a subject of Taiwan I am firmly with dr. Farrell on his alluded ( in many YouTube interviews)hypothesis that Taiwan is done. Both US and China want Taiwan gone for the same reasons , bond fraud.
