I’m familiar with the book and author. I concur. Good!!
I hate sophistry.

I’m familiar with that sandwich and I concur
Bit of a foodie myself…
… speaking of Mitch Hedberg …
after ordering such sandwich the guy behind the counter asked Mitch if he needed anything else. Mitch replied “a loaf of bread and some other people”.
Mitch told a joke about refried beans that always stayed with me:“wanted to try fried beans and see if it was just as good”
So as a young bachelor when I would empty a can of refried beans in to the pan…I’d announce they were three-fried beans - ala Mitch.
He was a marvel.
Mr. Macedonia with many names…You are absolutely correct. They didn’t force Greek Citizens to be smart. They just re allocated them.
Plato said dialectic was the highest form of education in the Republic. Numero uno. Highest priority for thinkers in society. Problem solvers. Decision makers. CEO’s. Leaders. Aristotle said that logic was a critical instrument, but he was noble and didn’t force the suckers to read Scarmoge’s book. He should have. Weak bastard.
Socrates taught dialectic in the open. He’d crush you and usually his opponent had no idea he was being verbally decimated and he showed compassion. Not force. He was all about just before this, and just behavior that.
But, and it’s a big beautiful But, if you weren’t able to handle the compulsory teachings of the Greek liberal arts, you relegated to the position of Bus Boy. And you were respected for it.
You were trained with your hands, learned practical skills so you could serve society and bring home the bacon. You didn’t get involved with issues of the state and the collective good other than taking the plates off the table.
I don’t walk into a house of cabinet making and say, give me that saw and let me try that. So why is it everyone who doesn’t have basic dialectical knowledge and basic awareness of informal logic gets a say on the internet?
Reading it is like getting 6 COVID jabs in a week!
Everyone talks about the American Core curriculum. But does anybody do anything about it?
I really just don’t have it in me to decipher these responses man, didn’t mean to get involved in your thread. Cheers!
Good idea. Tangling with these two would be utter disaster for your ego.
Can’t tangle when we don’t understand one another what-so-ever haha. Didn’t seem to know what the non aggressive principle was, didn’t see a point to continue the conversation.
Whatever, such a lovely phrase.
You did it again.
Courtier’s Fallacy. You wrongly assume it’s me that doesn’t understand he subject matter I’m referring to
CS Lewis called this Bulverism
.
You don’t understand the subject matter. That’s going to be a problem for your future as a writer.
You’re doing nothing malicious or intentional. So we’re good. But you’re completely unaware of the field of informal logic. And then you wonder why your missives don’t get attention. We found the problem.
I highly recommend you take Scaramogs book recommendation seriously. Very seriously. I’m aware of the book because I’m aware of the literature in this field to help others gain thinking skills.
There is a picture version. And other fun books on amazon.
“This short book makes you smarter than 99% of the population. . . . The concepts within it will increase your company’s ‘organizational intelligence.’. . . It’s more than just a must-read, it’s a ‘have-to-read-or-you’re-fired’ book.”
The humorous twist is that Joseph Farrell is quite adept at critical thinking, and reasoning. Better than most. He also has an education better than most. Deductive and inductive thinking. Listen to how he proceeds through his high octane speculation to make conclusions.
If he were to make egregious assumptions, he’d be out of business.
What I like is that you were honest about your confusion. You seem like a good dude. But you’ve made me painfully aware what must be happening in someones mind when you attempt to explain to them they engaging in sophistry and they aren’t aware of it. All the circuits get over loaded. And they abreact. Many examples
It should be obvious to you that Scarmoge and Mohgarr are both informed on the subject and don’t seem confused.
Can I offer you a ham sandwich?
For those of you more advanced in NLP, I just anchored sophistry with a ham sandwich. Incase, I need to use it in the future in a conversation.
If I did it without revealing what I was doing, it would be unethical.
Scott Adams anchored millions of people with a coffee. Smart guy! I never sipped because I know the trick. Plus I drink tea.
I read Scott Adams for many years even before social media and his popularity went thru the roof when he started decoding Trump for the normies. He used to have a blog with much fewer people and we used to interact before the mob came on board. Then after COVID, I stopped listening to him.
I didn’t get the jab and I’ll never take the jab. So I didn’t have an official COVID card and my coffee shop wouldn’t let me in and I was walking the streets in the cold and everyone thought I was an outcast because I wouldn’t take the jab.
Scott had too much damn influence to call us nut jobs for questioning the narrative. He was still a highly skilled individual and likeable person. Just didn’t always agree on his takes. But always respected him. He should have stayed out of that one. I’d been reading on the ill effects of vaccines for many years including the Polio vaccine that killed alot of people because the government said it was good.
I related to the Dilbert comic strip because at the time I was working in a non-supervisory position at a huge transnational corporation and saw the content where I worked. Other then that, I did not know much about him or that he was an advocate of “the shot”. The only time he was on my radar was when he was blacklisted for his black comments.
Macedonia is mentioned, tho not sure in which context, yet from compatriot politeness to whomever macedonian will drop with advice always pivot around cosmopolitism
its the true shape of the local aether here …
… regards the topic I’ll define the base by the simple labels like, left center right [1][1][1] tho I think this nolan testing its kind biased coz we can measure the evolving system and how we position across the same, eg. the legal corruption in usA dont leave space for having clear stance on anything coz everything is skewed in favor of the top of wealthiest citizens in the state, even companies per’se coz they are also person in usA, thus their interests are shaping the political reality [2][2][2] practically as zoonpolitikon one cant be stiff but need to balance always eg. for some things I am more leaning towards left centrism while for other to the right centrism, its bit more 501 shades of tight will for compromises
sometimes by default falling in 0 abstinence coz whatever reasons, but in essence true freedom come solely through center in this dimension [3-3][3] and eventually through the realism as ideological prism that brings will for compromises, actually all ideals do eventually tho the outcome differs!, Yet, as agitprop spin this dont sound neat for the entrenched plutocrats thus push an phantasmagory of extremes like far right or far left dialectics while in essence is one party plutocratic elitism, the established enterprise [4][5]
for the rest of the thread chitchat I’ll say people You do have spare time on Your hands isnt
Respect and Cheers … chasing burnout debate mode is more useful tho for live vlog BS alike [6] while eforum debate should be more profound exploration in my opinion …
He was an honest man. I think a couple of years later he admitted he was wrong?
Smart people know how to change their minds once better information comes in.
It’s not a debate which is no more than two adults engaging in adult conversation using adult principles.
You’re all over the place. Flagrant fouls. Innocuous because you’re not attempting to do anything but be yourself.
In American football, I’d have to fine you 10 yards for every foul. But after I add them up, it would mean I’d have to take the entire field.

Copy and paste your own writing into some intellegent computer program and ask for feedback.
Your questions are loaded. Make sure you understand what that means. You have assumptions about reality. It could mean the filter needs to be cleaned.
Scott used to say 92.3% of the population is unable to detect humor. Not sure there is a cure for that. You have so many screen names that I opted for my own moniker. I choose what I thought was a friendly one.
all over … maybe You’ve mistaken me with someone!?, if see footnotes in the conversation that is me, otherwise You’ve recognized maybe wrong person, yes I have few accounts but that is due to password problem I had have [1] and those are not secrete, as said if You see footnote thats me …
… hm, tho fallacy that in future can some misuse it so would poke me or influence others by trickery, yet for now its kind of good eforum practice for 20 years for me that havent seen it elsewhere still, blogs pages etc. yes, but on eforums no, except by me, and sadly noone copying it …
also the style of from sleeve thrown forum blogging flow its unique too, and eventually the way of interaction coz not native english speaker plus not at all worrying about grammar makes me recognizable by magnitude, altho if someone wants to spin me through a.i. copycat guess it could easily frame for given eforum deep fakes, but till now havent run on such skims!
Katz’s brother had a deli in Austin, Texas; sadly it closed when he up and died. Memory eternal! My favorite was Katz’s Reuben. “Katz’s Never Closes!” twenty four hours a day, a late night and early morning favorite.
Picking political parties is the proverbial velvet mousetrap. Direct democracy is preferable for any local and/or national level decision-making. Sorry am more of an Thing and Althing type of person. We have seen how the checks and balances of political systems, bureaucracy and governance, become undermined or corrupted over time. Of the range of options political systems we currently have I would opt for Switzerland’s. Minimum 40% of power remains with the population and the rest is fought over by a myriad of political parties at national level. Physical checks and balances by dint of the numbers with the lion’s share of the power remaining with the population. Also works to ensure local matters are decided locally by those tax payers. List of political parties in Switzerland - Wikipedia’%20Movement
Yes, but the propaganda and technological shenanigans throws a big spanner in the works even for this system of democracy.
