Around 2010 when I lived in Houston my car was stolen while living in a gated community with a guard at the entrance. When I called the police to report the theft their policy was to only take down the information. I would be notified when they found the car and by reporting the theft I would not be held responsible should the car be involved in an accident. A couple of months later I was notified the car was at a wrecking yard, the engine was gone.
It was an Acura Integra with the V-Tech engine, popular for racing. Since it was an older model, comprehensive was not carried on the insurance policy. I did not know at the time I bought the car, it was listed in the top tier of stolen cars!
