Juneteenth has been a holiday here in Texas for some people for a long time. The news of the Emancipation Proclamation reached Texas on June 19th 1865, a little over two years after it was drafted. It’s been celebrated since June 19th 1866 in Texas and has spread in popularity nationwide. I’ve been celebrating it for years myself.
I get why it is historically significant in Texas… But I think this country is divided enough, and making a new “Black only” national holiday at this specific moment in history is divisive, . I think it became a thing in 2021… Right around the time of BLM, George Floyd, Donald Trump, Statues Coming Down, Minorities being re-cast in Disney, San Fransisco wanting 5 million dollar reparations for every black citizen, buildings being renamed, books being banned, The Charleston Church shooting, Brianna Taylor, etc… I just feel like when it comes to race, the powers that be want us divided… and for me personally I think it is hypocritical that our federal government does business with slave owning countries like China and at the same time declares Juneteenth a holiday.
Thanks Bahri… I’m hoping to get another year or two out of my current phone, but I appreciate the thought… For now, I use Faraday bag for my phone and try to limit my time on it
U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) agents have been instructed by the Biden administratioin not to use “he, him, she, her” pronouns . . .
When I go through border patrol here in south Texas they asked “Are you a citizen? That’s it…I would imagine they simply asked the same question of all the passengers, not ask the driver, so no pronouns are required.
Hi …So sad for me to witness such policies… . I think of patients suffering and their suicidality. The suicide attempt rate among transgender persons ranges from 32% to 50% across the countries. Gender-based victimization, discrimination, bullying, violence, being rejected by the family, friends, and community; harassment by intimate partner, family members, police and public; discrimination and ill treatment at health-care system are the major risk factors that influence the suicidal behavior among transgender people…
Remember, The People? So cruel and spiritually vicious these times where people harden their hearts, where love grows cold. Spiritual health is so important now…
Unfortunately I don’t see any solutions in the near future… The trans community considers anybody who does not affirm their beliefs as hate filled… So that prevents any meaningful dialogue.
In my opinion the transgender thing is a symptom of mental illness, not the cause… It’s like they say… “you can’t solve a problem if you can’t correctly identify it.” From my perspective the trans community is not realistic in their expectations and instead of accepting themselves for who they are, they want society to accept them for who they are not. That mentality will always set people up for depression
We can love them as people, but I could never promote or celebrate that lifestyle for several reasons, but one of them being that it leads to a difficult life that revolves around physical appearance and external validation.
As a teacher, I treat my trans students as I would any other student. I avoid pronouns and just use their name… But I could never be honest and open about my feelings on the issue with a trans person… because I would not want to hurt their feelings… so it does make friendship and dialogue difficult when you cant have open and honest conversations.
I wouldn’t register for the draft no matter what gender I claimed. If the military is all volunteer, why would anyone need to register?
I think that is why Biden has nixed the trans exemption, because everybody and their brother would claim it if he tried to enforce it… Which goes to show their is no principled argument coming from Mr. Biden. I personally would flat out refuse to fight and think a draft would fail out of the gate.
Strange how in the pursuit of equality men are suppose to register but not women?
I’m against all drafts for males and/or females, so I personally would never make that argument… But historically I suppose that women were left behind during wars for practical reasons. They had to care for the children and were physically weaker…
So am I against drafting others to kill others, just saying in today’s era, why would women be exempt?
@Bill10558 I’m against any war unless it’s to defend U.S. territory from actual invasion . . . but I’ve always wondered why only men had to register for the draft but not women. Historically, it made sense, but in today’s era, it’s harder to make a good argument for it, in my opinion. There are physical differences between men and women, so I could see men and women being assigned to different duties in the military; not everybody would have to be on the front lines fighting.
I asked that question to Google and…
…Google says: " One of the major reasons cited for why women can’t serve in some roles is the need for separate sleeping quarters, and particularly the worries about women being subject to sexual crimes. And unfortunately, these worries are still all too well-founded."
Soooo I’m reading that as our nation’s “heros” (a.k.a. soldiers) might become rapists if women were allowed.
There we go with the sex thing again…I guess the discipline in the military can’t override that urge?
